Why you should vote. (AKA I Voted today)

Voting is one of the few things we can do that may make a difference in our future. While your 1 vote may not change the future, it still can make a difference.

It is -1 degrees here today. I bundled up the girls and we went to our polling place. We ( I say we because I let K stand on a chair and "help" me fill in the little circles on the ballot. The ladies at the polling place thought that was adorable.) We voted for mayor and for the presidential primary. I am very satisfied with my choices. I researched and was on the fence but my final decision came when I watched an ad that really ticked me off from one of the potential nominees. I voted against that person.

After we left the polling place, we were driving back home and say the Mayoral Candidate that I voted for walking the streets all bundled up with a sandwich board sign saying vote for him. To me that speaks volumes about his character and his love of this community. If he is willing to walk around in -1 weather to encourage people to vote, I would probably have changed my mind, if I hadn't already voted for him.

I think it is important that my children see me vote. Granted at this age they don't understand the process and don't know what I am doing but I still think it is important. It was not that many years ago that women were not allowed to vote, or even own property. We have come a long way since then and I hope that when my daughters are old enough to understand they exercise their right to vote and be informed, involved citizens of whatever community they reside in as well as US citizens.

had a great day

Had the baby's check up. She is HUGE. She is all done with the infant car seat now. She is over the weight limit on it. Good thing I already ordered a new one for K. That one arrived today. It is awesome. It will be in my car tommorrow and K's will go in the SUV for O.

Did my 2nd round of volunteering with the Radio Auction. I hope to be more involved with it next year.

I jokingly (well kind of) told Hubby I would like to run for City Council next year. There are things in this community that need to be addressed and I think they need some new (and younger) blood on the council. There are not a lot of things for teens to do in this town. Lord knows that I know that, well used to, I am far from a teen anymore but I still get them, somewhat. As a young(er) adult, I see job opportunites leaving, although some are coming. There is a need for change there. Don't get me wrong. This is a great town and I love living here but I would like to shake things up a bit. The representative for my district is just a little older than me and is very popular so I think I would run as council member at large rather than for my district. Hubby told me to think about it more and if I decide to he will back me completely on it. He thinks they need more female influence on the council as well. I have thought of doing this before but never had the opportunity because of my work schedule. I could never attend meetings.

more donating

K and I baked some brownies today and watched them being auctioned. They went for $11. Wow I am impressed.

We donated a bath set and it is currently being auctioned. It sold for $7. We donated some onesies as well. I have not seen them sold yet. It is kind of fun to watch my stuff on TV. LOL

I had a blast

I had so much fun volunteering tonight. So much fun, that I volunteered for a 2nd night, Friday night and I talked my brother into working Friday night too. LOL. Can't wait.

been doing some thinking

I have been thinking a bit today about what I was told when I was asked to volunteer today. My old Pysch teach from college told me that volunteering looks really good on the resume. She is the one that convinced me to work tonight for the Radio Auction.

I had been thinking about finding something I could volunteer for. I want to keep my job skills current and I think if I found the right volunteering opportunity that could happen. So I am going to talk to hubby a bit about it tonight and start looking for a volunteering opportunity that will work with my schedule.

I'm going to be on TV tonight

On our local station. I volunteered to showcase items up for auction for the United Fund. LOL. I am the new Vanna White. So that is what I am doing with my me time this week.

It feels soooo good

Our local United Fund auction is going on. Last night I bid on and won some towels. My family usually donates something but ALWAYS buys something. So last night I ran around the house trying to find something to donate. I ended up coming up with a $10 restaurant gift card and a new bath and body works gift set. Total Value of $40 for everything.

I like donating to this organization because they help alot of charities in our area. Rather than donating $5-$10 here and there. I like to make a bigger donation to one agency. I took the girls down to the donation center and let K turn in our donations. She was so pleased with herself. The ladies accepting donations were so nice to her. They were telling her how nice she was to donate, etc. She was grinning from ear to ear.

So tonight and this afternoon I will be watching the auctions to see how much they go for.
